So, I have horrible nails. Mainly because I have a really bad habit of picking at my cuticles. And because I pick at my cuticles and cut them (I know I am not supposed to, but I do) the grow insanely fast and exacerbate the issue. My nail situation is further worsened by the fact that i cant quite seem to keep polish on my nails and as soon as it starts to chip, I can quite seem to keep it from picking off. So needless to say, my nails usually do not look that great.
I have tried all sorts of manicures and I end up just getting frustrated that I drop all kinds of money on a manicure and it doesn’t last more than 4 days (even the gel!). So I had given up on getting a manicure and had just resigned myself to a life of ugly nails. But when my friend Liz was in town, she was getting a dip manicure for a wedding she was going to be in and invited me to come along. Since I was there any way, and I have had friends RAVE about the dip manicure, I decided to give it a try.
Turns out the dip really is all its cracked up to be! That manicure really really really lasts. Since my first dip manicure at the beginning of April, I have had 3 manicures and one even lasted 3 weeks. For some that may not seem like a long time, but considering when I don’t have one, I have to trim and shape my nails every 4-5 days, it was massively impressive! I even did some rock climbing with the dip manicure on and not a single nail chipped, it was amazing!
While I had the dip on, I loved it. But when I needed to take the dip off and I didn’t have time to get my nails done again – I was less than impressed. Somehow, the dip significantly weakened my nails and they have been peeling and cracking since I have taken it off. I don’t know if it was the dip, or if I had forgotten how weak my nails are, but it has been a pain.
So, I may do the dip again at some point in the future, I don’t plan to do it again anytime soon. That being said, I am trying to be less of a cuticle picker with the vain hope that I can have health looking, non-dipped nails. Keep your fingers crossed for me…

try a base strengthening coat, clear for a while. It will help.
